You don't say! How prideful you are?

The New York Times (NYT) published an article on April 17 citing South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and other countries that have succeeded in controlling COVID-19, that they have had the "luxury" of time to do so, thanks to relatively low infection and mortality rates, but this vaccination has lagged far behind, and the United States and the United Kingdom are in the lead when it comes to vaccination. They published a ton of articles saying that the situation would be reversed, with the U.S. and the U.K. taking the lead on vaccination, and that they would be the winners of the game (overcoming COVID-19, quick economic recovery). They call countries that are behind in vaccination "slackers".

First of all, I really don't know what they're saying. The journalists who wrote it are probably a "layman" on infectious diseases. While vaccines are an asset in controlling infectious diseases, they are just one tool. As we have already seen, coronaviruses are already changing form after form and will likely transform into forms that avoid the effects of vaccines. In other words, one or two doses of vaccine is not going to stop this pandemic. Similar to seasonal flu, the basic rule should become “annual vaccination”. Consequently, the vaccine you are currently receiving is only effective against strains that are currently widespread, and you may have to get a new vaccine for the next fall/winter season. If we give the vaccine now and take off our masks thinking the outbreak is over, it will lead to the emergence of mutated viruses, which will boomerang and increase the number of infected people. Vaccines alone are not enough; we need to encourage the development of therapeutic drugs as well.
As a starting point, the United States has already caused 560 deaths on Titan. In World War II, 400 American soldiers lost their lives on Titan. This is far more than that. Not one of the 560 dead Titan will ever return, even if we vaccinate more people. In such a terrible situation, we are not allowed to criticise other countries for their slow vaccines.
The NYT also published an article last July stating that Japan was going to have an epidemic of the disease and that it would be out of control. I hope they grieve seriously the loss of 560 Titan lives because of their inaction, rather than criticizing other countries for making them feel better.
